Support the Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Event
April 5, 2017 — 5:30p.m. and 7:30p.m.

RIVER FUND embraces the Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Project as our neighbors and friends gather at Austin's Ale House on Wednesday, April 5th, to support families and seniors in poverty. The donation for a bowl/seat is $20. Each donation will allow us to provide a week's worth of groceries for a family of five.

Sponsored by The Potter’s Wheel and generously hosted by Austin's Ale House, the event will have two seatings—at 5:30p.m. and 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. A simple meal of soup and bread will be served in a handmade ceramic bowl of your choosing and you will keep your bowl as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in our City.

In preparation for the day, many of The Potter's Wheel artists lovingly created, decorated and donated very unique bowls, and dozens of seniors, school-children and other community members painted bowls at Kew Gardens community events. Check out the photos from past years.

Be part of this heart-warming community movement! And if you really can't make it on April 5th, you can just help us get more groceries with a donation—click here and you can make a difference today!

RIVER FUND is the largest community-based organization of its kind in Queens, and we coined the term "Poverty Frontline Center" to define the role we play in New York City: We confront material hardship with (1) weekly groceries, (2) benefits access, and (3) support and education pathways from Cradle to College. Thank you for supporting our work.

Online Reservation of Bowls/Seats is Now Closed

To join us at the event, please arrive early at the venue (shown on the left) and make your donation at the door. Cash, credit and debit cards will be accepted. Seats will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis at each of the two seatings. Space is scarce for the 5:30p.m. seating. seatings. Programs begin promptly. Please allow for enough time to complete your transaction. We appreciate your support.

If you are unable to attend today, you may also support the Empty Bowls Project by making a donation using the button below—or by selecting and purchasing a hand-crafted bowl for $20 at The Potter's Wheel (see panel on the left) throughout the month of April. Thank you.
