Support the Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Event
April 22, 2020 — EARTH DAY
5:30p.m. and 7:30p.m.

RIVER FUND embraces the Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Project as our neighbors and friends gather at Austin's Ale House on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, to support families and seniors in poverty. The donation for a bowl/seat is $20. Each donation will allow us to provide a week's worth of groceries for a family of five.

Sponsored by The Potter’s Wheel and generously hosted by Austin's Ale House, the event will have two seatings—at 5:30p.m. and 7:30p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. A simple meal of soup and bread will be served in a handmade ceramic bowl of your choosing and you will keep your bowl as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in our City.

In preparation for the day, many of The Potter's Wheel artists lovingly created, decorated and donated very unique bowls, and dozens of seniors, school-children and other community members painted bowls at Kew Gardens community events. Check out the photos from past years.

Further, since this year's event coincides with 50th year of EARTH DAY, thirty local artists have joined together to highlight the event with their work. See column on the right for more detail.

Be part of this heart-warming community movement! And if you really can't make it, you can just help us get more groceries with a donation—click here and you can make a difference today!

RIVER FUND is the largest community-based organization of its kind in Queens, and we coined the term "Poverty Frontline Center" to define the role we play in New York City: We confront material hardship with (1) weekly groceries, (2) benefits access, and (3) support and education pathways from Cradle to College. Thank you for supporting our work.

50 Years EARTH DAY 2020

ART FOR EARTH

The international theme for Earth Day 2020 is action on climate change—with a focus on food insecurity. Honoring this theme, this year's Empty Bowls Event will be the highlight of a two-month exhibition—featuring works by 30 local artists on display at Austin's Ale House from March 3 to May 3, 2020.

These local artists, using their favored medium, have joined together to express their feelings about the effects of climate change, the loss of natural habitats, the effects on flora, fauna, our water and food supplies and the future repercussions for our world.

Join us for a celebration of human connectedness—to each other and to our common home.
