Mary C. Tiedemann Scholars and Sisters Lead the Way as Valedictorians and Master’s Degree Graduates

Updated: Jul 2

Aaishah and Alisha, sisters and Mary C. Tiedemann Scholars, graduated in June with their Master’s Degrees from CUNY’s Graduate School of Public Health - each majoring in Public Health with concentrations in Epidemiology and Bio Statistics. They did so at the very top of their class and as VALEDICTORIANS!

We met these two dynamic, compassionate, thoughtful, clever young women in 2022 when they came to the RIVER FUND to volunteer.  As sophomores at Queens College, they first entered the Mary C. Tiedemann Scholarship Program.

While continuing to volunteer at RIVER FUND Saturday Food Distribution Programs, Aaishah and Alisha worked tirelessly on their studies, seizing every opportunity to learn and grow in their fields. In pursuit of their individual goals, both young women volunteered at New York Presbyterian Hospital continuing their commitment to service and community care.

The Mary C. Tiedemann Program supports Youth in their educational journeys and empowers students on their various paths to gainful employment.  The program provides opportunities to lift up individuals, their families and their communities.  Alisha and Aaishah are determined to lead, serve and create change.  They exemplify the purpose of this scholarship, showing us what is possible when potential is met with opportunity.

We are proud, beyond measure!

Not just for what Aaishah and Alisha have achieved, but for WHO THEY ARE. For how they choose to show up and serve their community that has helped shape them.

Congratulations, Aaishah and Alisha. You inspire us all!

This is just the beginning…
