Back to School Program

Nearly 1 in 8, or 12.5%, of all children nationwide are living in poverty. The total has increased yearly by 1 million since 2019.

As a result, children are by far the largest demographic group facing the effects of poverty, daily.

In New York City, 1 in 4 kids live in poverty!

RIVER FUND launched the nation’s first ever ‘Child Poverty Awareness Day’ in 2013. CPA DAY evolved in our efforts to mitigate expenses parents face in providing essentials for the new school year.

The foremost component in our effort to break the cycle of poverty is education. Our Back-to-School Program supplies each child with age and grade-specific educational materials and backpacks and sets our youth up for success for their educational journeys.
